WHAT WE CARE ABOUT
In order to be able to discover fine foodstuff worldwide also in future, we need an intact nature with the best raw materials and with socially fair and stable conditions for the people in the producing countries.
As an international enterprise we take responsibility for human and nature – by acting sustainably and doing business CO² neutrally. In doing so we base our activities upon climate protection, responsible interaction and the constant optimization and new development of our products.
Three pillars for one target: a worth living future for us all!
Furthermore, we are actually planning a photovoltaic system on the roofs of our production sites in Germany in order to optimize the energy recovery in thermal energy intensive processes. Furthermore, we constantly check and optimize our products, packagings and transport processes. We are fully aware of the fact that by doing so we only reflect part of our entrepreneurial activities and products and that there is still a long way to go, however, each step is precious and a step towards the right direction.
Quality, security and durability of our products have top priority for us, therefore we cannot renounce plastic packaging completely.
In comparison to many other packagings plastic can be easily recycled – same applies to our plastic packagings. In order to accelerate the consequent reutilization of plastic and to take active measures against the predominant plastic problematic, we have a cooperation with Plastic Bank.
Plastic Bank is a network of collection points in developing countries where plastic waste can be collected and exchanged e.g. for school fees. This ‘barter’ should be a counteract against the plastic waste as well as against the poverty in the developing regions. The collected plastic is being recycled and reintegrated into the value-added chain. Our donation made it possible that this year more than 5 million of plastic waste could be collected.
Our way to climate neutrality
- Survey of CO2 emissions together with Fokus Zukunft
- Minimization of CO2 emissions by combined heat and power plants, photovoltaics or by thermo-energy-intensive process optimization
- Compensation of unavoidable CO2 emissions
Altogether we have already compensated the following emissions:
- 2020: 1.467 tons of CO2 (corresponding to 6.985.715 km by car or 203 flights around the world)
- 2021: 1.765 tons of CO2 (corresponding to 8.404.762 km by car or 244 flights around the world)
- 2022: 1.578 tons of Co2 (corresponding to 7.514.278 km by car or 218 flights around the world)
In comparison to many other packagings plastic can be easily recycled – same applies to our plastic packagings. In order to accelerate the consequent reutilization of plastic and to take active measures against the predominant plastic problematic, we have a cooperation with Plastic Bank.

RESPONSIBLE COOPERATION
We know that the success of the RILA business group is especially based on the engagement, eagerness for innovation and the qualification of our employees.
For this reason, we feel particularly obliged to them. Our aim is to be an attractive employer offering room for development of the potentials of our employees. Therefore, our communication is open, but at the same time appreciative and respectful with short decision-making processes and flat hierarchies.
In our five production sites we have approx. 350 employees. With a view to the future of our enterprise, the formation and further education of our employees play a central role.
For this purpose, we are offering a wide range of apprenticeships in the different production sites of RILA business group :
- management assistant in wholesale and foreign trade (m/f/d)
- computer science expert/software development (m/f/d)
- computer science expert/system integration (m/f/d)
- warehouse logistics specialist (m/f/d)
- warehouse specialist (m/f/d)
- machine and system operator (m/f/d)
- specialist for food technology (m/f/d)
- restaurant specialist (m/f/d)
- cook (m/f/d)
Responsible procurement
A fair interaction with our suppliers and producers is self-evident for us and a fix part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. This interaction is characterised by longterm trustful partnerships with the local suppliers.
The responsible procurement of products and services based on ethic, labour law-related, social and ecologic guidelines is our daily business. In this context, we orientate ourselves on the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) Code of Conduct in order to set up step by step a reliable supply chain.
Reduction of food waste
Any food is precious! Nevertheless, according to UN report of 2019 we throw approx. 931 million tons in trash yearly. This corresponds vaguely to 17 % of the worldwide sold foodstuff and means 121 kg of food waste per person.
Even though food waste is a big problem from ethic, ecologic and economic point of view. In order to keep the waste of food as low as possible, we donate qualitatively impeccable food which – due to small blemishes – can no longer be delivered to the retailer. We actually donate our foodstuff to the nearby Food Banks as well as to parish communities. By this means we could save 50 tons of food from being wasted in 2020.
In this way we are able to counteract the food waste and at the same time contribute to the conservation of resources by social engagement.
OUR PRODUCTS
We offer more than 1.200 different products to our clientele. Driven by curiosity and a desire to explore, we are always looking for innovative, authentic and exciting new specialties.
When selecting new products, we attach great importance to the requirements of our consumers. Our products should be problem settlers, moments of pure enjoyment, vacation memories and much more, and – at the same time – they should be healthy. For this reason, we orientate ourselves on the 10 rules of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung who recommends a diverse nutrition, many cereal products as well as fruits and vegetables. Lactic products as well as fish and meat should be enjoyed in moderation.

Furthermore, the consumption of fat, salt and sugar should be reduced. For this reason, we are constantly working on the reduction of the salt and sugar contents of our products. Additionally, we promote the authentic taste experience by renouncing flavour enhancers like glutamate as far as possible. Moreover, we enhance the expansion of our organic assortment and the development of vegetarian and vegan products.
Apart from that a sustainable nutrition is important for us which means that we try to do without palm fat – but should they be necessary, we will be using only certified palm oil respectively palm fat.
Safety of foodstuff
In order to guarantee constantly the safety of our products, we use packaging made of the following materials: glass, paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminium and tinplate. We check the choice of our packaging materials for every development of new products as well as in regular control cycles based on the following criteria:
- protection and safety of product
- functionality of warehouse and transport
- product quality and durability
- Usage and functionality
- use of resources (use of materials & CO2 footprint)
From the beginning until the end SUSTAINABLE
Actually mankind is consuming approx.. 60 % more natural resources in one year than our earth is able to renew in the same time (source: Global Footprint Network). So we are all asked in order to protect the environment.
Also you can support our engagement for sustainability by considering the following three aspects in your everyday life:
Plan your purchase and your meals with anticipation, thus avoiding to buy foodstuff twice or to forget already bought foodstuff in the fridge. Please do also care for correct storage of the foodstuff.
Do rely on your five senses when evaluating foodstuff. The shelflife is in no way the throw-away-date, but does only indicate the time until a product retains its specific characteristics (taste, colour and consistency) on the basis of adequate storage. Products can often be consumed still quite a long time after the expiration of the shelflife.
Waste separation works. It is important that each of us cares for correct waste separation in his household. Foodstuff packaging made out of plastic, aluminium, tinplate and composite materials e.g. should be put into the yellow bin. You will find more information regarding waste separation on www.muelltrennung-wirkt.de
